Support and Conditions

• VMware Storage Support and Limitations
  • Incremental data synchronization is not supported for virtual machine versions 4 (only full data synchronization is supported).
  • Data synchronization for disks larger than 2TB is not supported under ESXi 5.0 and 5.1 (single disk capacity < 2032GB).

• Synchronization Gateway Network Requirements
  • A CentOS 7 system with a minimum of 2 cores and 4GB of RAM is required as the synchronization gateway.
  • It should be able to access the vCenter management network address and port.
  • It should be able to access port 902 on ESXi managed by the same vCenter.
  • It should be able to access the management network address of HyperMotion/HyperBDR.
  • Refer to the documentation for specific network access policies.

• Synchronization Gateway Performance
  • Each synchronization gateway supports a maximum of 100 hosts for synchronization.
  • The synchronization gateway speed configuration is related to the concurrent number of synchronized hosts:
    • (Default situation) When high speed is required, it is recommended to adjust “vmware_release_cpu_time = 0” to improve synchronization efficiency.
    • When there are a large number of concurrent synchronized hosts, it is recommended to adjust “vmware_release_cpu_time = number of concurrent synchronized hosts.”

• Guest OS Support and Limitations
  • Not supported: Virtual machines using remote RDM disks (virtual machines directly accessing a storage LUN in the SAN).
  • Not supported: Network shared mounted directories (e.g., virtual machines accessing data via NFS/NAS remote network access within the virtual machine’s system; this data cannot be synchronized and requires the use of a file synchronization tool).
  • Not supported: Independent mode virtual disks; they need to be converted to basic disk mode for synchronization.
  • Not supported: Virtual machines with USB or PCI peripherals mounted; taking snapshots will fail (e.g., devices like encrypted USB dongles).
  • Not supported: Virtual machines configured with shared disks; shared disks need to be changed to non-shared mode (modify the parameter “iscsi1:0.sharing” to “mutil-write” and change it to FALSE).
