This section covers 3 different situations of converting FBX to Biped or Bones.

Biped-Originated FBX to Biped

Instructions**
It will be very easy to convert FBX back to Biped rig if it was exported from 3ds Max Biped.

  1. Make sure your rig was exported from Biped.
  2. Select any part of the FBX character and open the Mapping Editor.
  3. The system will automatically set up bone mapping data.
  4. Click FBX(BIP-Originated) >> Biped to convert FBX to Biped rig.

Notices

  • You don’t need to map your character and also don’t need to resume it back to T-pose.
  • When the circle color in the right upper corner turn green, it means everything ready.

Non-Biped-Originated FBX to Biped

Instructions

  1. Select any part of the FBX character and open the Mapping Editor.
  2. Generate Biped:
    • If your character is mapped correctly,
      1. Click T-Pose and resume the rig.
      2. Click FBX(Non-BIP-Originated) >> Biped and the biped rig will be created and aligned to the FBX.
    • If your character isn’t mapped
      1. First, try to click the Load button and see if there is any saved template for your FBX.
      2. If there isn’t one, you need to manually map your character first. To map your character, see How to Map Character.
      3. Click FBX(Non-BIP-Originated) >> Biped
  3. Continue with Copy Animation, Copy Skin Weights, and then Import/Export Animation.

Notices

  • Make sure your character is mapped and resumed to T-pose before creating Biped.
  • When the circle color in the right upper corner turn green, it means everything ready.

FBX to Bones

  • Select any part of FBX character.
  • Map all the root bones of your chararcter, in the “Other” tab of the Mapping Editor.
  • Click FBX >> Bones.

Notices

  • Only the root bones need to be mapped.
  • You can jump some joints if you want to rule out some unnessesary bones. Only select and map the root you want to start to build bones, and jump the higher hierarchy of the selected bone.
