1. during意为“在……期间，在……的某个时候”，用在已知的时期、节日或表示时间观念的名词之前，其后通常接the, this, that, these, those, my,your, his等词，既可指某个动作在某个时期里连续不断地进行，也可以指某个动作在这段时期里的某个时间发生。

   I didn’t pay attention during the class.(上课的时候我不专心。)

2. when意为“在……时候，当……时，在……期间”，既可指时间点，也可指一段时间，引导的时间状语从句中的动词可以是非持续性动词，也可以是持续性动词，从句的动作和主句的动作可以是同时的，也可以是先后发生的，主句用过去进行时， 从句则用一般过去时。

   I was watching television when my father came home.(我爸爸回家时，我正在看电视。)→come是非持续性动词 She didn’t show up when he kept waiting for her last night.(昨晚他一直等她，而她并未现身。)→wait是持续性动词

3. while意为“当……的时候，与……同时”，引导的从句中的动词必须是延续性动词，强调主句和从句的两个动作同时发生。

   We must strike while the iron is hot.(打铁必须趁热。) while也有“……而……”的意思。 I like coffee, while he likes tea.(我爱咖啡，而他爱茶。)
