General Guideline

The translators are expected to provide with 2 outputs in this task, which are the Theme and the Selling Points.

The theme refers to the core information that customers are highly likely to search. It is limited to 50 characters. The selling points are product features and advantages which cannot be included in the first 50 characters or relatively less important.

As there are Standard and non-Standard products, following 2 suggested word orders provided to help you work better.
1. For Standard product (3C, cosmetics, etc., specific classification at the end of instruction)
Theme: Brand + Core Product + Model/Parameter + Function (less than 50 characters including text and space.)
Selling points: Variable Product Word + Feature + Description (less than 78 characters including text and space)

If the length of translation for Theme is longer than 50, please try to move Function to Selling points, then Model/Parameter

2.For non-Standard product (bags, clothing, shoes, jewelry, etc., specific classification at the end of instruction)
Theme: Brand + the Most Suitable Product Word + Core Feature (Modifier) + Target User (less than 50 characters including text and space.)
Selling points: Variable Product Word + Feature (+Color from Title) + Season from Title + Year from Title (less than 78 characters including text and space.)

If the length of translation for Theme is longer than 50, please try to move Core Feature to Selling points, then Target user

Tip:
As there are Standard and non-Standard products, above 2 suggested word orders provided to help you work better. But you also can adjust the word order appropriately to make the translation more fluent or more likely to search by customers.

The total character count cannot exceed 128 characters for theme and selling points (including text and space). But within the character count, translate as much as possible, especially attributes closely related to the product, i.e. the longer the translation is, the better.

Tips for Translation

  1. Remove the Non-English word in source;
    2. No need to add any information that is not shown in title;
    3. Adjust the word order appropriately to diversify the translation, which means for almost the same titles, provide different translations by adjusting word order;
    4. Display various product names with same meaning but different expressions in selling points (from title);
    Note: If the product names are the same in title, no need translate them several times, and if they are different in title but the same in JP translation, just keep one translation, and if they are different in both title and JP translation, keep the various translations all.
    5. Keep the number in Arabic numerals;
    6. Use space (single-byte space) and preposition appropriately to make the selling points translation more fluent, DO NOT overuse;
    7. If there is no brand name, NO need to search in the descriptions and provide in the theme part;
    8. Delete common qualifiers and promotional information such as beautiful, high quality, hot sale, free shipping, 20% off, since they are not closely related to the product itself;

MT Word in Title

Pay attention to MT words in title, especially these words with ambiguity that don’t make sense for foreign translators. They are always mistranslated from the original Chinese source into English that are very frequent in this kind of project.
