Introduction to the 2022 MakeX competitions and kits - 图1
The 2022 MakeX competition is divided into MakeX Spark, MakeX Starter, MakeX Explorer, MakeX Challenge, and MakeX Premier; each with a different theme for the 2022 season, as shown below. Besides these events, there’s also a MakeX Inspire activity.

MakeX Inspire

Theme: Fruit Wonderland
Theme introduction: As an emerging industry that combines traditional agriculture and artificial intelligence, smart agriculture not only improves the efficiency of farming, but also solves problems such as pests and environmental damage. In the future, robots can be the best helpers for farmers to capture pests, collect and sort fruit. The farmland will be better with the help of technology.
Type: STEAM activity for kids
Age requirement: kids aged 4 to 7 years (inclusive)
Number of participants: 1 player and 1 parent
Event introduction: The activity aims to develop kids’ mathematical and scientific thinking through the tap-to-read robotic interaction; inspire kids’ interests in programming, develop their multiple intelligence and independent thinking, and build their self-confidence through diverse scenarios.

Theme: Infinite Life
Theme introduction: The United Nations General Assembly designated April 22 as International Mother Earth Day through a resolution adopted in 2009. International Mother Earth Day is designed to promote the sustainable development of human beings and nature by formulating standards for sustainable development and commucation between countries that meet the standards. With technology and innovation, human beings will empower the earth with growing vitality.
Type: creative competition
Age requirement: 6-9 years old (inclusive) for elementary group, 10-13 years old (inclusive) for
intermediate group
Number of participants: 1-2 players for online competition (not including mentors);2-4 players for offline competition (not including mentors)
Number of mentors: 1-2 mentors (aged over 18) for each team
Event introduction: MakeX Spark is an innovative competition for young people aged 6-13. It comes in 2 forms, online and onsite competition. Contestants are encouraged to use a variety of materials to design and build their projects. Through project-based learning, contestants enhance their imagination and creativity; through critical thinking and real-world problem research, they improve their cross-disciplinary problem-solving skills. Also, contestants’ expression and teamwork skills can be enhanced through project demonstration.

Theme: Zero Carbon
Theme introduction: Since the 18th century, the use of fossil fuels has brought a lot of convenience to people’s life, but it also causes global climate issues. Nowadays, more and more countries join together to tackle global warming, and have put forward the goals and policies of the net zero plan, to join “Race to Net Zero” and achieve “carbon neutrality”. For the shared home of humanity, we will foster changes from the cities where we live together day and night, and zero-carbon cities are our answer to global warming.
Type: multi-task competition
Age requirement: teenagers aged 6-13 years (inclusive)
Number of participants: 1-2 players, not including mentors
Number of mentors: 1-2 mentors (aged over 18) for each team
Event introduction: MakeX Starter is a multi-task competition for elementary school students aged 6-13. The competition integrates the automatic stage and the manual stage, which makes it more fun and engaging. The independent missions and alliance missions fully exercises the critical thinking and strategic planning abilities of contestants, and enhance the collaboration between alliance teams.

- Frames are used to enclose the competition map and prevent props from being scattered around.
  • You may consider not buying a frame in the following situations:
    1. You have a frame for the 2020 or 2021 season and don’t mind its difference from the 2022 season - some flat beams of the 2022 season are a few centimeters shorter. You can use it for practice.
    1. You can make similar frames yourself.


    - Note that the official competitions use the official frames of the 2022 season.

Theme: Eco-Pioneer
Theme introduction: Over the past century, high emissions of carbon dioxide, water vapor, nitrous oxide, methane, and other greenhouse gases have led to the rapid increase in the Earth’s temperature. In addition to actively reducing greenhouse gas emissions, we can also use advanced equipment to capture carbon dioxide. The collected carbon dioxide can be used in production of chemical and sustainable fuel, agriculture, and medicine, which bring us a step closer to mitigating warming and achieving sustainable development.
Type: Adversarial competition
Age requirement: 8-13 years old (inclusive) for elementary school group, 11-15 years old for
junior high school group
Number of participants: 1-2 players, not including mentors
Number of mentors: 1-2 mentors (aged over 18) for each team
Event introduction: MakeX Explorer is a confrontational competition program for elementary and junior high school students aged 8-15. This program fully integrates the essence of sports events and is highly interesting and a delight to watch. The competition requires the contestants to design and build robots from scratch, which systematically develops the contestants’ comprehensive abilities in robot design, mechanical construction, and programming. Also, the form of alliance confrontation improves the contestants’ strategic thinking and ability to solve imperative problems.

Theme: Energy Innovator
Theme introduction: Renewable energy is the future of energy, an effective solution to the unequal distribution of resources, and a ray of hope for sustainable human development. Renewable energy integrates human thinking about production and consumption, as well as technological innovation. Supercomputers and cloud computing technology not only connect the new energy chain, but also unite countless people who love this planet. Let’s build a sustainable new energy planet together!
Type: highly adversarial competition
Age requirement: teenagers aged 11-18 years (inclusive) at high schools or vocational schools
Number of participants: 2-8 players, not including mentors
Number of mentors: 1-2 mentors (aged over 18) for each team
Event introduction: MakeX Challenge is a highly confrontational competition for middle and vocational school students aged 11-18. This program is highly confrontational and enjoyable to watch, and the simple and easy-to-understand rules enhance the overall experience of participants. By designing, building, and programming large robots, the contestants’ design and multi-dimensional thinking abilities are enhanced. Also, the contestants are exercising logical thinking, strategic analysis, teamwork, and decision-making abilities in the competition.

AI has great potential in the medical field - smart diagnostic systems and intelligent operating robots are helpful to improve traditional medical procedures and significantly increase medical efficiency. Let us work together to solve the medical problem using future technologies. The world is counting on you to create a healthier future with your brains and hands.
Type: highly adversarial competition
Age requirement: Young engineers aged over 14 years (inclusive). 14-18 years old (inclusive) for the high school group. Current college students for the college group.
Number of participants: 2-8 players, not including mentors
Number of mentors: 1-2 mentors (aged over 18) for each team
Event introduction: MakeX Premier is a highly confrontational large-scale robotics competition for high school students over the age of 14 and post-secondary students. As a large-scale robot competition, it is more open and accessible in terms of robot design, construction, and programming. The competition aims to strengthen the contestants’ abilities to learn and apply advanced technologies. With the extremely challenging tasks in competition, contestants’ strategic planning, communication, and problem-solving skills are enhanced.
