0:03Skip to 0 minutes and 3 secondsHello, and welcome to Start Teaching Computing in Primary Schools. My name is Jordan, and I’ve been a teacher in the UK for the past five years. And I’m Josh, an educator for the Raspberry Pi Foundation and an ex-primary school teacher. This course is the teachers of primary-aged children aged five to 11 who are new to teaching computing. Over the next four weeks, you’ll explore the themes of computing systems and networks, programming, and data and information. You’ll also develop your knowledge of computing through creating media and understanding the importance of using digital tools safely and securely. The course contains a number of practical tasks to help you embed your new knowledge. 0:44Skip to 0 minutes and 44 secondsWe’ll also discuss several teaching activities, and you can download the videos, text, and PDFs from this course to use in your own lessons. You will assess your own subject and pedagogical knowledge, reflecting on how you can modify and adapt lessons so they are inclusive, differentiated, and assessed effectively. This course draws on content from the Teach Computing curriculum, a full set of lesson plans, slide decks, and activities designed to meet the requirements of computing in the English national curriculum. There are six year groups of content aimed at primary-aged learners five to 11. Each year group contains six units, each with six lessons. All resources are freely available to all teachers, regardless of your location. 1:29Skip to 1 minute and 29 secondsAlthough written for the English curriculum, the content is also relevant to other curricula. In order to access the resources, you will need to create an account with the National Centre for Computing Education. Where content is taken from the Teach Computing curriculum, you can choose to use content from your own local curriculum instead. In this first week, you’ll learn about the importance of computing in primary education and then analyse and break down a primary computing curriculum. You’ll be learning alongside people from all over the world. Be sure to join in the regular discussions, ask questions, and help each other out. In the next step, you’ll be meeting the rest of the Raspberry Pi team and introducing yourself to your fellow learners.
The Teach Computing Curriculum
