原文

The Seven Ages Of Man
All the world’s stage,
And all the men and women merely players;
They have exits and their entrances,
And one man in his time plays many parts,
His acts being seven ages. At first the infant,
Mewling and puking in the nurse’s arms.
Then the whining schoolboy, with his satchel
And shining morning face, creeping like snail
Unwillingly to school. And then the lover,
Sighing like furnace, with a woeful ballad
Made to his mistress’ eyebrow. Then a soldier,
Full of strange oaths and bearded like the pard,
Jealous in honour, sudden and quick in quarrel
Seeking the bubble reputation
Even in the cannon’s mouth. And then the justice
In fair round belly with good capon lined,
With eyes severe and beard of formal cut,
Full of wise saws and modern instances.
And so he plays his part. The sixth age shifts
Into the lean and slippered pantaloon,
With spectacles on nose and pouch on side,
鼻上架着眼镜,腰间挂着钱袋;
His youthful hose, well saved, a world too wide
For his shrunk shank, and his big manly voice,
Turning again toward childish treble, pipes
And whistles in his sound. Last scene of all,
That ends this strange eventful history,
Is second childishness and mere oblivion,
Sans teeth, sans eyes, sans taste, sans everything.

All the world’s stage, world’s = world is
And all the men and women merely players; (are)merely (=only) players省略
男男女女不过戏子而已 完整: men and women are merely players
They have exits and their entrances,
And one man in his time plays many parts,
His acts being seven ages. = and his acts are seven ages.
And one man plays many parts and his acts are seven ages

At first the infant,
Mewling and puking in the nurse’s arms. mewl(v.)呜呜哭叫;puke(v.)
Then the whining schoolboy, with his satchel
And shining morning face, creeping like snail
Unwillingly to school. = unwillingly going to school

And then the lover,
Sighing like furnace, with a woeful ballad
Made to his mistress’ eyebrow.
Full of strange oaths and bearded like the pard,
Jealous in honour, sudden and quick in quarrel
Seeking the bubble reputation
Even in the cannon’s mouth.

And then the justice justice在这里指代法官≈judge justice 法律
In fair round belly with good capon lined, 大腹便便 = 物资富足 capon 阉鸡
With eyes severe and beard of formal cut,
Full of wise saws and modern instances. wise saws = wise sayings
modern instances = up-to-date anecdotes
And so he plays his part. someone/something plays his/her/its part in something
eg. Papa Rabbit plays his part in English education.
所以也可以说someone/something plays his/her/its role in something.

The sixth age shifts
Into the lean and slippered pantaloon, = lean pantaloon + slippers
With spectacles on nose and pouch on side,
鼻上架着眼镜,腰间挂着钱袋;
His youthful hose, well saved, a world too wide = much too wide,
For his shrunk shank, and his big manly voice, shrink(原形)shrank(过去式)shrunk(过去分词)
Turning again toward childish treble, pipes
And whistles in his sound.

Last scene of all,
That ends this strange eventful history, = life
Is second childishness and mere oblivion, childishness = childhood
Sans teeth, sans eyes, sans taste, sans everything. sans = without

The Merchant of Venice 威尼斯商人;A Midsummer Night’s Dream仲夏夜之梦;Twelfth Night第十二夜
As You Like It皆大欢喜 ←本段名台词出自皆大欢喜As You Like It: Act 2, Scene 7
Jaques

Jaques
Duke Senior:
“Thou seest we are not all alone unhappy. This wide and universal theater Presents more woeful pageants than the scene Wherein we play in.”
