    Scenic - Style breakdown

Instead of principle artistic fundamentals, this last style is inspired by what everyone enjoyed the most about the previous three styles.

    1. The Facial styling of Default - Like Default, Scenic uses a a modern anime face styling.
    2. The 3D lighting model of Expressive - Like Expressive, Scenic has a sophisticated system to model more realistic light and shadow. Exceptionally beautiful backgrounds.
    3. The graphic styling of Cute - As we will discuss below, putting a character in a scene is quite a challenge. Scenic borrows strong graphic elements from Cute in order to strike a balance between compositions.

A pretty place for a pretty face

Compared to our other styles, scenic will zoom out a bit more on the subject matter, and provide more of the environmental context behind actions.

    Developing a strong silhouette

When we set out to develop Scenic, we spent a lot of time making sure that it not only handled pure sceneries well, but also integrated characters properly in the scene. As any human artist can attest, this is no easy feat! It’s a delicate balancing act between the detail of the characters and the detail of the background. In the sense of traditional art, it might be the most challenging type of picture to draw.

In situations like this, a powerful character silhouette is key.

The Ancient Egyptians claimed that the perfect silhouette is a face in profile, attached to a body facing the front, with legs facing the side.

While we didn’t go all the way into contortions of that scale, we made faces in Scenic slightly more likely to show a profile view. This helps create a more interesting silhouette and keep things balanced in more sophisticated compositions involving both characters and scenery.

Characters in Scenic will direct the viewer’s eyes through the composition using the directions of their faces. This results in emotional, impactful moments: beyond merely posing a character on top of a background, Scenic directs the characters to truly interact with their world.

Scenic is the ultimate storyteller style! Personally, I suggest trying a landscape aspect ratio for those beautiful, cinematic shots.

To be honest, at first, we were quite nervous when launching this project: what if people thought the styles we made were too anime? What if they thought they wasn’t anime enough? Would people like cute things? Would everyone figure out how to use /settings to turn the styles on?!
