Tony Leung and Maggie Cheung were both young at that time, so did us. The whole story of in the mood of love was touching and beautiful, so beautiful that each frame is capable to be a wallpaper. The story background was set to early nineteen’s Hong Kong, however, there was a heavy Shanghai smell filled in the air. Which enhanced the beauty with classic Chinese mystery.
However, the story itself was more attractive, in which there were two couples lived neighbored, but Tony’s wife and Maggie’s husband were never showed up, there were like shadows in the night. At first, we can hear their voices from conversation and telephones, from Tony and Maggies statements. But we still doubt about their’s existence, because we hardly believe things we never see with our own eyes, just like Tony and Maggie in the story. One day, the Never-showed-up wife and husband disappeared, it was an elopement, which happened under everyone’ nose, but how?
The HOW question led the left of the story, while Tony and Maggie were both wondering. How the husband and wife met, how love started to grow in the deep of their heart, and how they decide to eloped, and left them behind. Then there was a long imitation between Tony and Maggie, trying to find out their couple’s story. They imitated the husband and wife, and started too to warm each other’s heart. But no matter how hard they try ,there was a wall between them, the hurt was too deep which prevented them to get together, we are not them, the story is destined to be a tragedy by this sentence.
But a story never touched you by the story itself, it is the way that tell the story which touches us, the BGM, the camera, the silence, the darkness , the most important secret in a story can never tell. Another thing is resonance, sometime a story touches us only at the right time in the right place, we may unable to get touched only until we experience something similar. A movie that we cannot understand at all ten years ago may made us cry like a baby ten years later.
Some people say that the title In the mood of love may not be suitable for the movie, it is better to be called In the mood of losing love, because it was not really a love story, but a story to lose. Both Tony and Maggie lost their couple, and at last they lost each other. However, love and losing love are two sides of a coin, isn’t it?
I used to think year to be a long time unit, but as time elapses, there are more and more stories to be left behind. Ten Years starts to become a time unit for many memories. There are someone to know each other for 2 Ten Years, someone has lost in touch for Ten Years, and someone that I will never in the left of my life for no matter how many Ten Years. Gradually, I start to understand the different feelings of life, the happiness, the sorrow, and the untouchable Destiny. Just like the subtitle at the end of the movie.
Those years that have vanished seem to be seen through a dusty glass. They can’t catch it… He has been thinking about everything in the past. If he can break through the dusty glass, he will go back to the years that have long since passed away. .
