Product: Nitrogen Generator
2.1 Nitrogen generators

Nitrogen generators produce nitrogen gas from compressed air and offer a cost-effective, reliable and safe alternative to traditional nitrogen gas supplies such as cylinder or liquid.
Nitrogen generators are available in 20 standard models with capacity in the range from 1 - 1800 Nm3/hour from 95% to 99.9995% purity. Oxywise PSA generators are designed for 24/7 operation. The touchscreen control has user friendly interface with automatic start/stop function based on gas consumption.
PSA Technology
A PSA Nitrogen Generator consists of two columns filled with a carbon molecular sieve (CMS). Pre-treated compressed air enters the active column and flows up through the CMS. Oxygen and other unwanted gases are adsorbed while the nitrogen passes through. The active column then becomes fully pressurized. When this pressure is released, the column becomes inactive and completely regenerates during the depressurization. In order to secure a steady flow of nitrogen each generator is built from two columns; one is active while the other is inactive. At the end of each column’s cycle, they switch roles.

Industries Nitrogen is applied
Electronics
Nitrogen for optimising soldering processes
Using nitrogen to inert the atmosphere during soldering processes has become a generally accepted practice in the electronic assembly industry. Regardless of whether the soldering process is wave, selective or reflow, nitrogen improves the process by enhancing the joint quality and minimising defects.
Soldering processes
Wave soldering
In wave soldering, the required purity is more important than in re works. In the wave soldering process, the mounted components are led through a series of zones adding flux, heat and wave of melted solder. Nitrogen is added in a closed, gas-tight tunnel system in the machine throughout the entire process.
Reflow soldering
Some soldering processes take place in a reflow-oven and nitrogen is added through the entire process. The process starts with pre-heating of the mounted circuit boards allowing water, flux activating additives etc. to be dried off the board. Next, a soldering paste, consisting of flux and corns of solder will melt and be applied to islands during the reflow phase. Finally, the soldering joints and parts cool. Nitrogen purity is less important compared to that of wave soldering.
Food packaging
Nitrogen is an efficient, cost-effective way to displace oxygen and moisture
Food stability and freshness is dependent from oxygen concentration in the packaging, since oxygen can cause fermentation and chemical breakdown.
Nitrogen is an efficient, cost-effective way to displace oxygen and moisture; it prevents spoilage, preserves freshness, maintains flavor, dramatically extends shelf life, and delivers a significantly improved product to the customer.
Packaging with nitrogen is also known as Modified Atmosphere Packaging (MAP). PSA Nitrogen Generator suits perfectly, with its purity and flow demands, to requests raised by the food packaging industry.
List of a foods where MAP is used
- Dry Foods and Bakery (chips, coffee, nuts, spices, milk powder, cocoa)
- Wine
- Bottled water
- Oil and fat
Nitrogen is used for vegetable and fruits storage in storage containers. If oxygen is removed, all aerobic organism will die. By controlling the amount of oxygen in the storage container, ripening can be controlled to a point where fruits and vegetables will mature and ripen at a perfectly controlled pace.
Laser cutting
Using high-pressure nitrogen for laser cutting
In laser cutting the laser beam melts the material and high-pressure nitrogen forces the metal quickly to harden. As nitrogen has a shielding effect, the cutting area is protected against ‘bluing’ and oxidation.
Using high-pressure nitrogen for laser cutting of steel and metal has many benefits over alternatives such as oxygen.
- Advantages of Nitrogen use
- Protects the metal from corrosion.
- No oxidation of the steel occurs.
- No additional heat is generated.
- A high quality (clean-cut) edge is achieved.
- The clean cut makes it easy to weld and paint or powder-coat the metal.
- Paint will not fall off the edges.
Pharmaceutics
Nitrogen in pharmaceutics
Most pharmaceutical companies have multiple nitrogen uses and purity demands. The purity requirement varies from 99.5% to 99.9995%. Most pharmaceutical applications are blanketing, inerting and sparging.
Plastics
Injection moulding
Nitrogen is used for injection mounding to improve the quality and the strength of moulded plastic product. Liquid plastic is injected into the mould, and as the molten material (polymers) starts to solidify, high-pressure gaseous nitrogen is introduced to push the plastic into every part of the mould, pressing it outwards from the inside.
Injection moulding offers increased component design flexibility, weight reduction and cost savings.
Petrochemical
Pipeline drying and inerting
The low dew point of nitrogen (-50 °C) and the fact that Nitrogen is totaly inert, makes it an ideal choice for pipeline drying. Nitrogen displaces oxygen, retards oxidation, and prevents explosions.
Because the need of dry Nitrogen in the pipeline is continues, a steady flow of Nitrogen Generator is a perfect solution.
Storage of flammables
Nitrogen is the ideal inert gas for blanketing or purging. It can be used to blanket storage tanks where various hydrocarbons or chemicals are housed, or used to reduce the oxygen content to a safe level.
Tire inflation
Filling the tires with nitrogen
There are various benefits of filling the tires with nitrogen, e.g. gas mileage, longer tire life, driveability, smaller losses of the tire pressure due to temperature change and the cost savings. The reason is that nitrogen is an inert and dry gas and it eliminates oxidation which causes tire wear, permeability through rubber and the absence of moisture minimizes the wheel corrosion.
