Introduction Course
The open lecture gives us an overview what kind of tasks will be included during the semester and a warm up on the virtual recruitment section. I would say this course is quite organised if everything hold downside. It’s never an easy job to work in a foreign country before well prepared, like get in touched with a local company. Luckily, Espoo sounds like a international and multicultural place, which is quite friendly for international student to find the job here.
Master thesis and internship
This time there is a lot of useful information on the master thesis and graduation part. It’s difficult to find a temporary internship position right now because of this uncommon situation, one of the fellow student shared a lot on how to find the thesis position here. The key trick is to talk to people, take part in the job fairs and talk to professors.
Master thesis is still different from the internship since the thesis is not a summary report on what I have done during the six-month period.
Prepare for virtual career event
this year the career fair is hold online. It would one more possible offline one in January, but not decided yet.
Since we are gonna pitch for around 1 minute online, I practice a bit and sort out what I should present during this short period. Luckily, I got around 7 changes to talk with the representative from the companies for 10 mins each.
How to optimize by cognitive performance
Having realistic goals and identify whether I am a morning person or evening person. Personally I can focus myself after 9pm.
Survival Skills in Finland 101 by Academic Engineers
Applying for jobs before seriously consider the chances, get rid of those jobs from your list if you would definitely be unsatisfied from the beginning moment. It’s quite important to have native guys as friends since referred jobs in Finland is quite common.
Company Virtual Meeting
This section is quite challenging and interesting! Our group are target on Airbus node in Helsinki and I took part in a lot of virtual events hold by other groups. To be honest, I didn’t expect those companies would pay attention to our student organised events while since everything has been move online, it is even more convenient to talk with guys from the companies a bit. I took part in the virtual meeting with UbiSoft, Nokia and Elisa. Those provides latest information on talents they are recruiting, how the interview goes and the training program.
Summary
No pains no gains. It’s a learning process for me to prepare for the resume, looking for the recruitments from different ways , attending interviews and finally choose the position which suit me best for the next semester. It’s not only how much you managed, but also how you present yourself in front of the future manager. Thanks to various events hold in the course, I more or less got touched with a lot of companies, understand what kind of skills do they need right now.
